Filip Vandervoort
Belgium, Escort mk2, Rallycross special
Original 1300cc mk2. Changed the engine with a
1600cc, camshaft 285°, 1300cc pistons, 2 double 40mm webers,
spaghetti exhaust, bilstein rear shocks, front of a rs2000 (to be
replaced). Had the cylinder head flattened to the max. reworked
the valves. Polished all entry and exit holes. Stripped the car
completely including all the power-wires who are not needed. Made
doors, boot and hood lighter. Rollcage, sportseat, ... all necessary
racing things.
I'm going to race once this year to test the car,
and next year I'm going to race a whole season on the "Promotion
class".
Bye & Greetings from Belgium.
Filip Vandervoort.
UPDATE 2003:
I'm still alive, and I've just revived the escort
too. Its got a spankin new engine after Ii ruined another one.
Its a 1600cc kent engine, with cosworth crank,
CP pistons, head been worked, I've got my same 2 double 45 webers
on it, new exhaust (real spagetti)
Have a look at the attached measurement from the
testing of the engine. We've stopped revving it at 7000 rpm, but
we could go to 9000. The engine is brand new so we decided to give
it some time after we go for the max. power.
In my latest race I won the first heat, great beginning,
the new engine was working fine, we didn't push it beyond 6000 rpm.
Second heat I crashed bigtime, I got pushed off
in a 3th gear turn, some weener pushed against the rear right tyre,
spun off, crashed into wall!!!
My feet got stuck, couldnt get out, hurts kinda
bad, but i'm okay.
See above for the result....
